Dear Family, Friends and Colleagues,
As most of you know, five years ago I was fortunate enough to be CURED of Hepatitis C. This only reinforced my mission to help everyone have the same opportunity. My organization,The Hepatitis C Mentor and Support Group, provides education and supportive services nationwide for ANYONE affected by Hepatitis C and co infected with HIV, through our programs, trainings and groups.
With the opioid epidemic we are experiencing in this country, it is vital that we include Harm reduction strategies to help those affected understand the risks so that they do not infect themselves and others. When my journey first started, it was mostly the baby boomers affected. It is now primarily young people, including women of child bearing age. People need to understand the syndemic connection between substance use and infectious disease.
It is essential that we carry on this work. HCMSG travels to the rural areas where there are no providers for fifty miles. Supportive services and education are limited. It is estimated that Hepatitis C affects 5 million people in the United States and is the leading cause of Liver cancer. People are walking around not aware they have this virus. Now there is a cure, but these powerful treatments will only be effective if more people are made aware, screened, diagnosed and provided with effective care and supportive services.
Please help me continue to make a difference in people’s lives. Support can come in many ways. I ask that you give HCMSG yours. You can make a monetary donation and /or support by forwarding this email to all your connections, posting on Facebook and asking others to please do the same.
You just never know who in your network is affected!
I truly appreciate any support you can give to HCMSG.
