HISTORY

Education, support and mentorship is an important aspect of being a part of a community. This is exponentially more important in underserved populations who are often overlooked. The lack of support and education in these communities often can lead to stigmatization where feelings of guilt and unworthiness can become an overwhelming deterrent to people choosing healthier outcomes. Founder and Director of HCMSG, Ronni Marks, recognized this over 20 years ago when she began organizing and facilitating a support group within a prominent NYC hospital. As a advocate and former patient, Ronni recognized that to effectively make a difference in the lives of those affected by Hep C and or living with both HIV and Hep C, the common “change” driven system interventions to promote better health would need to be updated to include more than just education and an environment where one could be heard. What started out as a Modernized support group over the years has grown to become a premier model encompassing many of the non-clinical care realities for many affected by or at risk of Hepatitis C. As a NO-COST support strategy for partner sites, adopting The Circle makes it easier for an organizations to expand and/or enhance their Hepatitis C education and support for their clients and staff.
