Do you have Hepatitis C? What you eat and drink is important for your liver!

There's a growing recognition that nutrition is important to liver health, especially for people with Hepatitis C.  We know avoiding alcohol is important, but there's a lot more to it!

What and when you eat becomes more important when you are on treatment for Hepatits C.  Eating a small amount of relatively high fat food is known to increase the body's use of Ribavirin, one of the two drugs used in traditional Hepatitis C treatment.   Ribivirin, along with Inferferon, is also used in combination with the new, direct acting antiviral drugs.

There is evidence from recent trials that eating a meal or snack before or right after taking one of the two new oral Protease inhibitors, Incevik (telaprevir) or Victrelis (boceprevir), increases the body's absorption and use of the drugs...dramatically.

Nutrition can also play a role in lessening the side effects of Hepatitis C treatment.

For all these reasons, Ellen Oseroff, MS RD, a registered dietition and nutritionist, will speak at the next meeting of the Midtown Manhattan Hepatitis C Support Group.

Ellen will speak on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at 6:15 PM
Midtown Manhattan Hepatitis C Support Group
NYU Medical Center
560 First Avenue, Smilow Conference Room 1301
(walk through the main entrance and ask security for directions)

The meeting is free of charge and open to all Hepatitis C patients, family and friends.  Refreshments will be served.
